Bird Boxes

On Saturday, 30th January, Malvern Youth Centre was full of people, young and not so young, building bird boxes ready for the year ahead.  Malvern Community Forest (MCF) organised a bird box workshop to link in with the Youth Centres intergenerational project.  There was a lot of chatting as the construction progressed with MCF membersa talking to the young people about the different types of boxes for various birds. A lot of energy went into the hammering which rang round the whole room; but it  was a productive noise.  All together the group built 29 small boxes, suitable for Robins and Blue Tits, with one large box for Tawny owls to be sited on the Oak tree in the Youth centre grounds.
The Youth Centres next project will be finishing off the pond.  This was dug before Christmas by the young people who are now hoping to get some carpet to cover the pond area before putting the pond liner in place.  Help is always welcome from people and children of all ages, the group meet between 3 and 5.30pm every saturday.
